The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP) is one of the most important biodiversity conservation areas of the Philippines. It features a spectacular limestone or karst landscape that contains an 8.2 km long underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it flows directly into the sea, and the lower half portion of the river is brackish and subject to tidal influence. The area also represents significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. It contains a full mountain to the sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia.
After topping the first round of voting, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River was declared 1 of 28 finalist for the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
On the Bank Note
The Philippine Government, together with the Bangko Sentral, recently issued a new 500 peso banknote as part of a major redesign of banknotes and coins to enhance security features and improve durability. The new note designs features famous Filipinos and iconic natural wonders. The reverse side of the 500 peso note shows New7 Wonders of Nature finalist, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. The obverse side features former Philippine President Corazon Aquino and her late husband, Benigno.
How to vote
Voting for the PPUR is easy. According to DOT, people can vote via SMS by following these steps:
